Susceptibility of Streptococcus mutans to antimicrobial agents.
Fifty strains of Streptococcus mutans, including defined strains and clinical isolates, were tested for susceptibility to 20 different antimicrobial agents. Minimal inhibitory concentrations were determined by a liquid microtiter procedure. Antibiotics that were most effective in concentrations below 0.1 mug/ml included penicillin, ampicillin, erythromycin, cephalothin, and methicillin. Antibio...
متن کاملAntimicrobial susceptibility testing of Actinomyces species with 12 antimicrobial agents.
OBJECTIVE This study was conducted to assess the susceptibility of human clinical isolates of Actinomyces species to 12 antimicrobial agents. METHODS Human clinical isolates of Actinomyces spp. were collected from stored collections held at the Microbiology Department, Edinburgh University, Anaerobe Reference Laboratory, Cardiff, Glasgow Dental Hospital and Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Each isola...
متن کاملIn vitro susceptibility of Salmonella to various antimicrobial agents, including a new cephalosporin, Ro 13-9904.
The in vitro susceptibility of 363 strains of Salmonella isolated in Honk Kong to various antimicrobial drugs was tested, and the minimum inhibitory concentrations of ampicillin, mecillinam, and six cephalosporins (cephalexin, cephradine, cefamandole, cefoxitin, cefuroxime, and Ro 13-9904) for these strains were determined by an agar dilution method. Although strains of the typhoid and paratyph...
متن کاملIn vitro susceptibility of Mycobacterium marinum to eight antimicrobial agents.
The in vitro susceptibilities of 16 Mycobacterium marinum strains to eight antimicrobial agents were determined by the agar dilution technique. The most active drugs were amikacin and kanamycin. Tetracycline, doxycycline, and minocycline were inhibitory, predominantly at concentrations slightly below the expected blood and tissue levels. Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole and erythromycin demonstrat...
متن کاملSusceptibility of Campylobacter pyloridis to 20 antimicrobial agents.
The susceptibility of 50 strains of Campylobacter pyloridis, isolated from human gastric biopsies, to 20 antimicrobial agents representing the different families of antibiotics was tested. The pattern of susceptibility was similar to that of the C. jejuni-C. coli group except for ampicillin, cephalothin, and rifampin. The relative resistance to cefsulodin was also noted.
